Q: We are remodeling our kitchen. Everyone recommends granite for the countertop. However, I’m worried about stains and the upkeep. We are also contemplating porcelain tile vs. wood floors for the entire living area, kitchen and hall. What would you advise? -Linda

A: If you choose the right granite it will not be an issue. Darker colors and denser stone work great. And I would do wood flooring, not tile. It is a renewable surface and adds more overall value to your home. -Lou
